The performance is a five-part dance adventure through the South Florida environment exploring the sounds, movements, and patterns found in nature, as it is influence by urbanization. Like a tapestry, each piece is intertwined in to the next, taking the audience on a seamless journey though the air, over land, and into the sea.
The evening begins in the air with an exploration of the world of birds. Here the audience will start the journey on an exploration of dance movement that expresses how urban gestures can be transformed by the exotic sounds of eight South Florida’s birds. The music creates a soundscape to support the different dynamics performed in the complex and unpredictable movement exploration.
The second piece takes us to the
world of the lizard, a place of rhythm and
speed where a single musician and a single
dancer explore the lizard’s movement, playing
between stillness and unexpected movements
capturing the explosive yet delicate creature
in its natural environment.
The third piece is a design work that takes
us on a non-stop journey of connected sensual
movement that reflects the intricate, complex
intertwining, and mysterious life of the mangrove
- from seedling to fully developed community.
Music and dance will again be original with
live music and original poetry by award winning
South Florida poet Mia Leonin.
The fourth piece explores the temper, range, and unpredictability of water. From smooth to explosive behavior, from gentleness to strength, and from compliance to resistance, all will be expressed using human emotions as the motivation to find the true movement dynamics. Majestic yet compliant forces that are the life force of the region.
The fifth and final piece is an exploration of the fragility and vulnerability of the ocean and reef. Through dance, music and video by Jacek Kolasinski we are submerged in the world unseen from the surface and explore the relationship between human activity and oceans and how the delicate life form of the reef hangs in the balance.
